Children's Church

ALT_Pics_2014_05We have a great group of teachers who are committed to helping your children thrive and grow in their knowledge of God!

Place

We have several classrooms behind the sanctuary on the west side of the building set apart for our Sunday school kids! Ask one of our ushers if you need help finding it!

Time

Sunday school happens at 10:00-10:30 every Sunday morning. At 10:30, we all join together to worship God in the sanctuary!  Sunday school only lasts for half an hour, but you won’t want to miss it because it’s jam-packed with all sorts of exciting things!

Structure

  • Introduction
Since we only have 30 minutes, we try to make the most of our time by dividing it up into three 10 minute segments!  The first ten minutes are allotted for introductory things like fun songs with hand motions, prayer, and Bible buck rewards count-up.  This is also where we introduce our memory verse and lesson for the week!
  • Lesson
The second ten minute segment is devoted to the lesson for the week!  Every week, the lesson will be communicated in a different way!  Sometimes we perform skits, tell stories, or we have interactive object lessons and games.  However, this is where the substance of the lesson is presented.
  • Application
Lastly, we spend the last ten minute segment engaged in an activity that will stick in everyone’s mind!  We might make a craft focused on the lesson, or play a game that illustrates a principle that was taught, or focus on memorizing the memory verse.

Overall Themes

We write our own Sunday School Curriculum at ALT, and meet every week to discuss the upcoming lesson.  Our units generally cover between 7 to 12 weeks, and alternate between Old Testament and New Testament.  For example, we may have a 12 week unit on the Ten Commandments, each week teaching one commandment such as, “Honor thy father and thy mother” or “Thou shalt not steal.”  The next unit may consist of a 9 week unit focusing on the seven “I am” statements of Jesus from the gospel of John, each week teaching one “I Am” statement like “I am the good shepherd” or “I am the light of the world.”

Each unit also includes two special Sundays: our Sunday school store and our Gospel Sunday!  Throughout each unit, the kids can earn prizes and rewards in the Sunday school store, and are quizzed on what they have learned through creative means like game shows or other fun activities.  Each unit we teach, we want to present and discuss the gospel of Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation in unique and creative ways so that our kids have a proper understanding of this very important concept.

Bible Bucks System

Bible bucks is our rewards system in Sunday school.  Kids can earn Bible bucks for doing things like saying their weekly memory verse, bringing their Bible, bringing a friend, bringing an offering, and even if they just show up!  It’s an exciting way to get the kids involved and motivated.

Age

We have four different class options! For children 3 and under, we have activities in the nursery focused on basic activities, toys and songs. For ages 4-6, we have a class geared towards them down the hall. 7-9 is our largest age group, and so we have them in our largest Sunday School Room enjoying interactive lessons. Then for our pre-youth, ages 10-12, we have a class going on in the room that doubles as a prayer room with discussions and activities focused on that age. We go through the same overarching unit theme in our classes, but different elements are presented in a manner so that whether a toddler or a preteen, each child will walk away having received something from the lesson!

We hope to see you there, and please let us know if there is any additional way we can serve YOU!
